I am going to stop that trend |
In 1977 at the age of 44, my mother, Elsie Bergman, was diagnosed
with breast cancer and had a radical mastectomy. In her words, "I
no longer have one of my breasts, but more importantly, I no longer
have breast cancer." She decided it was time to really start
living her life to the fullest. She always wanted to be a scuba
diver, so in 1978 she and I took scuba lessons and became certified.
Scuba diving became her passion; she worked for and received her
scuba instructor's license and started sharing it with others by
teaching.
My mother and I were able to share hundreds of dives in the Bahamas,
until she passed away in 2000. I was in awe to see how her spirit
came alive. Being underwater, weightless and surrounded by beautiful
fish and colorful coral, she felt happy, peaceful and grateful to
be alive. Cancer was no longer a fear to be controlled by, but a
freedom and insight that life was truly a gift meant to be shared.
Today I am carrying on my mother's passion to bring this joy to
other breast cancer survivors, by introducing them to the adventure
and peace of scuba diving.

I look back at my mother’s and Grandmother's life whom both
died of breast cancer, and I see the pattern and effects of estrogen
dominance. My mother had breast and ovarian cancer, she was genetically
tested and no genetic mutations were found.
When I started my nutrition program with Dr. Biamonte my tests
and my health showed I had many of the underlying factors of breast
cancer. I have been working with doctors and nutritionists to help
me prevent it. I was estrogen dominant, and several of my other
hormone levels were out of balance. I had toxic levels of copper,
I also had candida, which many of us have but not many of us know
anything about.
